police academy 6 & arrete - control

Here's a NASA (as in the space program) inspired new song and video from the wonderful Police academy 6 done with buddy Arrete. If you haven't already make sure you check out their self titled album from earlier this year. It's really something. comments

baths - exit the mine

From Baths, this is really gorgeous, stripped back with minimal production. A great, gentle pop tune. comments

dakota - Cry Cry Cry

The enigmatic and splendid Dakota have a terrific new tune floating around, hear it below. If you dig make sure you head over here for more goodness. comments

the new division - shallow play

Been really big fans of Californian band The New Division since The Rookie EP released at the start of the year. Great news is they are set to release their full length LPShadows later this month and judging from the superb track below we are pretty freaken excited to hear the rest. comments

Oliver Tank - Last Night I Heard Everything In Slow Motion

Gorgeous post dub-step creation by independent producer Oliver Tank. A scattering of clicking beats, dreamy vocals and a soul-crushing string arrangement. Really beautiful stuff.
Recently joining the fantastic Yes Please and will have an EP out on October

sneak peak - way too much

Sneak Peek outta East L.A. is the kind of reverb-laden, fuzzed out lo-fi that California girls are doing so well right now, and this dreamy, lazy track is a real head-nodder. The band told us they've got an EP coming out soon so watch this space.

future islands - balance

Baltimore guys Future Islands are releasing their third album in October and with songs like this one it's no surprise a fair few people are counting the days. With an opening riff that sounds like an elephant trumpeting what's not to like? Throw in the awesome, almost-gutteral voice of lead singer Samuel T. Herring, a sparkling synth top melody, and a late-night-Eighties-MTV feel and you've got a track we've put in our top 10 of 2011 so far. The album is being released by the good folks at Thrill Jockey.

songs - heavy

Terrific new tune from Songs - a band from Sydney, Australia, whose debut LP was one of our favorites from 2010. They've undergone a couple of personnel changes recently, but "Heavy" (the last song recorded with the original lineup) is a groovy slow burn jam that has us psyched for their forthcoming sophomore record, due early 2012 through pop frenzy

bloods - long gone

This short hook-y garage-pop tune by Sydney band Bloods is infectious stuff. Handclaps and a nicely unpolished (but still pretty) female vocal gets us every time.
